The 6th October 2013 Khanacross and
Junior Motorkhana results
A dry and dusty Reef and Rainforest Track greeted
competitors at the Douglas Shire Motor Sports Association’s
khanacross and junior motorkhana last Sunday the 6th
October.
The dusty conditions meant that the track was very slippery
with most drivers complaining of a lack of traction and low
grip levels. “Like driving on marbles” was heard around the
pits on more than one occasion through out the day.
Flynn Dunkerton must have taken inspiration from watching
some of his dad’s home movies as he sped off the start line
in the junior club car leaving the remainder of the young
motorkhana drivers in his dust.
After seven runs Flynn finished on a total time of 298
seconds, well ahead of second placed Drew Van Dyke on 362
seconds.
First time competitor, Ally Hiscock from Cairns did well to
finish in third spot on 433 seconds, while Tobias Janssen
rounded out the top four with a time of 573 seconds.
Matt Coulson pushed his Ford Laser to its limits winning the
khanacross by twenty seconds with a total time of 388
seconds. This was his third win in a row and places him well
to take out this years championship with only three events
left to run. Krista O’Dell 408 seconds and John Kenna 419
seconds filled the podium places, with the three drivers
also top of the under 1600 class.
But it was Mat’s fifteen year old younger brother Josh who
drive exceptionally well and showed up many of the older and
more experienced drivers to finish fourth out right on a
time of 430 seconds.
His fourth place also cemented his win in the junior class
ahead of Hayley Kenna, Kara North and Erin Kenna.
Clayton Attwood returned to competition with a win in the
over 2-litre class ahead of Bob Errey and Anthony Baldwin.
A large field of drivers is expected at the clubs next
meeting on 3rd November.
