The 3rd October 2016 Khanacross and Motorkhana results
A smaller than usual field of drivers lined up for the Royal Khanacross and Junior Motorkhana at the Reef and Rainforest Track.
Despite some rain on Friday the track was in good condition and all drivers posted some fast times.
Heath Barry set the early pace in his Nissan Micra but it was the all wheel drive advantage of Cairns driver, Graeme Colls’s Subaru Impreza that allowed him to record fastest times on thirteen of the fifteen runs.
It was a convincing win by Graeme who finished the day on a time of 767 seconds nearly 40 seconds clear of second placed Heath.
Shane North took the last spot on the podium bringing his Ford Laser home in third spot a further fourteen seconds behind.
Rounding out the top five were Kara North and Bob Errey in his V8 Fairmont.
Shane Buchanan driving his Toyota Prius was the only other driver to record a fastest time, but ultimately finished in sixth spot.
We know that Heath beats his dad, Craig fairly regularly these days, but wife Sonia beat him as well. The gap more than thirty seconds.
In the junior motorkhana, Elliot Stacey continued to improve his times during the day as he became more confident behind the wheel. It was also good to see Ella Dunn back competing again.
