The 3 July 2016 Khanacross results
Heath Barry has become
the youngest member of the Douglas Shire Motor Sport Association to
win an event in the clubs 20-year history.
At just fourteen years of age, Heath won last Sunday’s khanacross at
the Reef and Rainforest Track, beating home many of the clubs older
and more experienced drivers.
Despite issues with a slipping clutch, Heath powered his Suzuki
Swift into first place on a time of 735 seconds, nearly 25 seconds
clear of his closest rival.
The club has had other juniors win events in the past, but none as
young as Heath.
Shane Buchanan also had his best result to date in his Toyota Prius
narrowly edging out Ross Dunkerton by less than half a second for
second spot.
Shane has been working on the Prius and his hard work seams to be
paying off as the car is getting quicker at each event.
Despite an under performing car and a slowest time plus 5 penalty,
Ross Dunkerton still managed third spot in his Nissan Silva.
The switch from rear wheel to front wheel drive appears to be paying
off for Anthony Baldwin as he finished fifth behind Craig Barry in
his Nissan Pulsar.
In second place behind Heath in the junior class was Flynn Dunkerton
and third was Ashton Davenport.
The Ladies class was won by Sonia Barry, ahead of Jenny Cavallaro
and Melanie Johanson.
Carl Johanson surprised everyone by not only completing a run
without hitting at least one witches hat but also recording the
fastest time on the second last run, while Alex Russo won a trophy
for the best spin.
The Associations next event is on Sunday 17th July.
