The 30th July 2017 Khanacross and Motorkhana results
Drivers from
the Douglas Shire Motor Sports Association competed in Round
7 of their 2007 Club Championship last Sunday.
With the first round of the interclub Challenge against the
Cairns based FNQ Motor Sport Club scheduled for just two
weeks time it allowed competitors a chance to test their
cars and their skills before the two day event on 12/13th of
August.
Steve van der Brug brought his Subaru WRX up from Cairns and
was on the pace early, setting fastest times on the first
three runs.
Not to be out done Graeme Colls responded and pushed his own
Subaru to the limits recording fastest times on the next
five runs.
A late surge by Van der Brug saw him post fastest times on
three of the last four runs, securing first place just five
seconds ahead of Colls.
Best of the non four-wheel drive cars was defending club
champion, Heath Barry. Despite incurring a twenty second
penalty for hitting four course markers Barry still managed
to finish in third place, while Rick Ranscombe and John
Kenna rounded out the top five.
The Junior Motorkhana was a hotly contested affair with all
three drivers scoring fastest times over the day’s
competition.
Josh Yendle was able to hold off a fast finishing Zed
Thackray to take the win, again by just five seconds, while
third placed old Mackenzie Barry continues to improve with
every event.
The Associations next event is a two-day meeting on 12th and
13th August at the Reef and Rainforest Track, North Mossman.
