The 29th May 2016
Khanacross and Motorkhana results
The Douglas
Shire Motor Sports Association held round four of its 2016
club championship last Sunday at the Reef and Rainforest
Track.
After being rained out the previous weekend the track was in
surprisingly good condition.
With some moisture still in the track grip levels were up
promising some fast times.
Several members are travelling down to Proserpine next
weekend for Round one of the NQ khanacross Series and so it
was a good chance for them to do final testing before the
ten hour drive south.
After rolling his Nissan Micra at round one Club Champion
Greg Erwin made a welcome return with his new car, another
Nissan Micra. He was quickly on the pace setting fastest
time on the first run of the day.
Ross Dunkerton brought his Datsun 1600 up from Cairns for a
run. Despite setting fastest times on many of the tracks, a
five second penalty for hitting a witches hat proved costly
as he finished two seconds behind eventual winner Greg.
The stand out performance of the day was young junior driver
Heath Barry who finished third outright, driving Kara
North’s Ford Laser. It was only the first time he had driven
the car.
Flynn Dunkerton showed that the Daihatsu club car is faster
than the Datsun 1600 by beating his older brother, Aaron by
twelve seconds.
Anthony Baldwin proved that Hilux’s are not unbreakable when
he flipped his onto its roof on the last run of the day.
Fortunately the only thing to break was the Hilux.
Zed Thackray tested out the new engine in the junior club
car winning the junior motorkhana on a time of 25mins
45secs.
The Associations next event is on June 19th.
