21st and 22nd May 2023
ROUND 4 2023 JUNIOR MOTORKHANA CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 1 INTER-CLUB CHALLENGE Khanacross and Junior Motorkhana
Points all tied after first
round of Inter-Club Challenge
The first round of the Inter-Club Challenge between our club and the
FNQ Motor Sport Club was run over the weekend of 20th and 21st May.
Thirty-four competitors line up
for the two day event including four newbies in the Junior
Motorkhana.
Graeme Colls looked to have the
event won but a five second penalty late in the day saw Simon Taylor
sneak into the lead with only the last two runs to go.
Taylor finished his last two runs putting in an impressive time on
each, and then it was all eyes on the scoring monitor as Colls took
to the track. The end result- a win to Colls by just 35 hundredths
of second.
Flynn Dunkerton made a welcome return to the track taking out third
spot in his Subaru Impreza.
Daniel Easton did well to finish in the top five after and engine
fire late on Saturday caused by a blown oil feed hose resulted in
him unable to finish the last run of the day and a slowest time plus
five seconds recorded against his name.
Daniel Andrews drove well to take his maiden win in the Junior
class. Andrews has been bridesmaid to the Perry twins for most of
this racing career and with the Perrys now eighteen and no longer
juniors it was his chance to shine.
Andrews was also second in the FWD class behind Shane Buchanan and
just ahead of Townsvillian Lance Melrose.
Trevor Thompson held a twenty something second lead over Bob Errey
in the RWD class coming into the last runs of the day, but a brain
fade by Thompson saw five witches hats laying on their side with the
resultant penalty catapulting Errey to a historic class win.
Hugo Erwin’s karting skills
gave him the advantage in winning the Junior Motorkhana, ahead of
Zaeb Rix, Thomas Gardner and Cole Ward-Cameron.
Heading to the final round of
the Challenge in September the score is all tied up at ten points
each.
