The 18th November 2012 Khanacross and
Junior Motorkhana results
It was a hot and dusty day at the Reef & Rainforest Track
for the second last event of the year for the Douglas Shire
Motor Sports Association. Five enthusiastic Juniors lined up
for the Motorkhana which turned out to be a very close neck
and neck race of the boys against the girls. Time keeping
prowess was of the essence with final victory going to the
girls as Kara North came in first, just edging out her
biggest rival Jaidyn Farmer by three seconds. Erin Kenna,
came in third to record her first podium finish of the year.
Nail biting moments were experienced by all of the Juniors
with good control behind the wheel by Krystal Secker and
Alexander Russo. The Juniors are really proving they are
learning from their driving time in the Motorkhana and could
be ready to proceed to the big track of Khanacross in next
year’s season of racing!
The Khanacross
proved to be an event of dust, dare devil driving and a
dented Daihatsu. Melanie Irwin & Carl Johanson had to change
cars after Mel rolled their Sirion at the notorious Colt
Corner. The day’s events were where cones went cluttering,
blowouts were bellowing and spectators enjoying the constant
changes in the leader board. All drivers had to nail down on
their concentration, to finish their runs smoothly, knowing
there is only one more round of the season to go before
determining the podium finish for the overall Championship.
It was a nail
biting finish with the last two runs of the day proving to
be the deciders for the overall placing’s of the day’s
event. The results saw a fast finish for the Subaru AWD of
Bruce Perry in first place. Consistent runs by Krista O’Dell
saw her come in second, giving her bragging rights over her
partner John Kenna who came in third, in their Ford Laser.
Krista’s second place overall also gave her first place in
the under 1600cc class and first place in theLadies. In
second place was Hayley Kenna who seemed to enjoy the car
change to the club car, followed by Mel Irwin for a brave
third place.
At the end of
the day’s driving, competitors were calculating their times
and planning their modifications and adjustments for the
next event which is the final event for the year. It should
be a nail biter with the Championship Leader Board changing
after this event to show Cairns driver Matt Coulson leading
on 121 points followed by John Kenna on115 points and Krista
O’Dell on 107.
The next event
is the final stage for the 2012 Championship and it is
scheduled for Saturday 8th December 2012 at the Reef &
Rainforest Track off Syndicate Road, Finlayvale. Everyone is
invited to come along and cheer on the drivers and see the
experience of everyday people having fun and developing
their driving skills.
