The 17th November 2013 Khanacross and
Junior Motorkhana results
The Douglas Shire Motor Sports Association held their second
last event for the year on Sunday 17th November and after
the previous event was rained out all sixteen competitors in
the Khanacross and seven in the junior motorkhana were keen
to hit the track.
The club has been doing some drainage and earth works over
the last couple of months and has also constructed a couple
of new tracks which club President Bob Errey was keen to use
for the first time. While some drivers thought the new
layout was a bit confusing, the only person to stuff up and
get it wrong was Bob.
The junior motorkhana competitors all had driving instructor
Shane North on the edge of his seat, with Ryan Walker and
Tayla North both nearly going over the motorbike jumps.
Flynn Dunkerton took an early lead setting the fastest times
for the first three runs but a strong finish by Cassidy
Pumpa saw her win on a time of 448.00 seconds. Second place
went to a much improved Krystal Secker on a time of 481.19
seconds followed by Drew Van Dyk on a time of 493.62
Several of the juniors will be turning fourteen in the next
few months and are already looking forward to competing on
the longer khanacross track.
In the khanacross Bruce Perry once again powered his Subaru
into first spot on a time of 454 seconds but most eyes were
on the father son rivalry between Dave, Matt and Josh
Coulson.
At the end of the day it was eldest son, Matt beating home
dad for second place with young Josh finishing a strong
forth overall.
Also of note was Melanie Irwin beating her partner Carl
Johanson overall by 37.5 seconds or did Carl let Mel win as
it was her birthday?
Junior khanacross drivers Christopher Dwyer and Kara (Tree)
North continue to grow in confidence behind the wheel with
every race meeting.
The next race event will be held on Saturday 14th December
following by the club Christmas break up and annual Trophy’s
presentation which will be held at the track from 5 pm
onwards.
