The 17th June 2012 Khanacross and
Junior Motorkhana results
After being forced to cancel the last event twice due to wet
weather, Douglas Shire Motor Sports Association members
finally took to the Reef and Rainforest Track last Sunday
for a Khanacross and Junior Motorkhana.
The Khanacross was won by Bruce Perry in his Subaru on a
time of 649 seconds, beating home the Ford Laser of John
Kenna on 671 seconds while Krista O ‘Dell finished third on
679 seconds.
Although John still leads the club championship, Bruce’s
result was a vast improvement on the last event in April
where he finished fifteenth. It shows that his new car has
got lots of potential and that he should be one of several
drivers in contention for the club championship come
December.
Cairns driver Dave Farmer had a solid result finishing
fourth outright and first in the 1600-2000 cc class with a
time of 693 seconds. Dave was forced to use the club car for
this event as he is still building his V8 powered Corolla.
Can’t wait to see that on the track!
Rounding out the top five and in the smallest car in the
field was the fast improving Carl Johanson on a time of 714
seconds.
Matt Coulson on 719 seconds lead home the juniors ahead of
Dal’n Smith, 786 seconds and Hayley Kenna, 799 seconds.
With all competitors driving the same car in the Junior
Motorkhana, times were close all day, but after 10 runs Kara
North had etched out a small gap to take the win. Her time
of 460 seconds was just five seconds ahead of second placed
driver Jaidyn Farmer while D’rel Smith was third on a time
of 514 seconds. Rounding out the top five were Erin Kenna
and Krystal Secker.
The Clubs next event will be a khanacross and junior
motorkhana on 15th July at the Reef and Rainforest Track.
