The 15th September 2013 Khanacross and
Junior Motorkhana results
Sunday 15th September turned out to be another great day for
the Douglas Shire Motor Sports Association, with racing at
the Reef & Rainforest track in Mossman.
Seven juniors lined up in the Motorkhana with a spectacular
show of skilful driving and some fast times to match from
the young drivers
Cassidy Pumpa stole the show to finish in first place with a
well-deserved victory on 299 seconds. Flynn Dunkerton was
second on 320 seconds while Krystal Secker finished in third
place on a time of 323 seconds.
Sean De Munk competing in only his second event also did
well to finish fourth out right
New comer Courtney Knight took some wrong turns and mowed
down some cones to incur penalty points but considering it
was her first ever attempt at driving, she did very well to
stay on track
In the Khanacross twenty drivers lined up with some changes
in cars for some drivers and it was not long before the dust
was flying and the racing was fast and furious.
Consistence and smooth runs paid dividends for Matt Coulson
who steered his Ford Laser into first place on 405 seconds.
The grip of his Subaru 4WD took Bruce Perry to second place
on 411 seconds, just two seconds ahead of third placed John
Kenna driving another Laser.
In fourth spot and keeping the boys honest was Krista
O’Dell. Krista also won the ladies class ahead of Michelle
Van Dyke in her mighty Hyundai Excel. Melanie Irwin came in
a very impressive third in the big V8 Fairlane, beating her
partner Carl outright for the second time in a row.
Young driver Harry Walker was neck and neck with laps times
against his dad, Craig but unfortunately he incurred a time
penalty for a wrong direction, handing the lead between the
duo to his dad. The final results saw Harry finish in eighth
place overall just two spots behind his dad and first in the
junior’s class ahead of Christopher Dwyer.
Carl Johanson once again took out the award for hitting the
most number of witches hats.
While some members will be travelling to Herberton this
weekend to compete in the third round of the NQ khanacross
series, the clubs next event in Mossman is scheduled for 6th
October with everyone welcome to watch or join up and come
along for the thrill of it!
