The 13th July 2014 Khanacross and
Junior Motorkhana results
After three events were cancelled earlier in the year due to
wet weather members from the Douglas Shire Motor Sport
Association finally hit the track for the first time last
Sunday.
Despite the six month lay off members were revved up and
keen to blow the cobwebs out of their race cars.
The club welcomed several new drivers including three new
junior drivers, who despite their initial inexperience were
soon spinning their wheels and kicking up some dust.
The khanacross was won by last year’s championship runner up
Bruce Perry driving his all wheel drive Subaru Liberty on a
time of 368 seconds.
Father and son duo of Greg and Kyle Skyring raced hard
against each all day for second spot but a penalty for a
wrong direction by Kyle in the second last run of the day
saw him slide back down the leader board and hand second
place to Greg.
Despite battling clutch problems all day, Justin Van Dyk had
his best result to date nursing his Hyundai Excel into third
place.
New member Greg Erwin pushed the club Falcon into a very
respectable fourth outright while Stick Quinn brought his
BMW home to round out the top five.
Krystal Secker had a day she would probably like to for get
loosing control of her Honda and nudging the bank at the top
of the hill. Fortunately the only thing she hurt was her
pride and she was able to swap cars and continue racing.
Tayla North powered her way to win the junior motorkhana on
a time of 291 seconds ahead of Drew Van Dyk on a time of 305
seconds.
Sheree Pumpa, 331 seconds finished third beating Brayden Van
Dyk on 379 seconds while Flynn Skerke-Erwin rounded out the
top five. It was a good effort by the twelve year old who
had never driven a car up until the day.
