The 10th August 2014 Khanacross and
Junior Motorkhana results
Grey skies and drizzle welcomed competitors to the Reef and
Rainforest Track last Sunday for the Douglas Shire Motor
Sport Association’s khanacross and junior motorkhana.
For a while it appeared as if the club would have to cancel
another event, the fourth for the year but as the rain
stopped and the skies cleared event organisers made the
decision to run the event.
Thus track conditions were slippery and muddy with several
drivers barely able to make it up the hill on the look lap,
but as the day progressed the rain held off the track began
to dry out and grip up.
Despite eventual winner Bruce Perry seemingly having the
advantage in his four wheel drive Subaru he did not have
things go all his way with both Greg Skyring and Justin Van
Dyk recording fastest times on a couple of runs.
Consistent times by Bruce proved to be the winner on the day
though and after eight runs he topped the time sheet with an
overall time of 429 seconds.
Greg slipped and slid his Chrysler Gallant in to second spot
on a time of 443 seconds while Michelle Van Dyk surprised
many with her gutsy drive to finish 3rd outright and first
ladies class. It was Michelle’s best result to date and made
even more sweeter by the fact that she beat home hubby,
Justin.
The father and daughter duo of Tony and Brittany Cristaudo
finished fourth and fifth respectively, a good result
considering it was there first time competing at the Mossman
track.
The junior class was hotly contested with less than two
seconds separating the top three drivers. Cairns driver
Flynn Dunkerton slid his Hyundai into first on 481.98
seconds closely followed by Kara North 482.12 and Cassidy
Pumpa 483.29.
Driving in only his second event Flynn Skerke-Erwin won the
junior motorkhana ahead of bothers Drew and Brayden Van Dyk
while first timer Fynnian Lawson rounded out the top four.
