The 10th September 2017 Khanacross and Motorkhana results
Track conditions were dry and dusty, a result of the lack of
rain over the last couple of months.
The dusty conditions meant that the track was quite slippery
with many drivers struggling to come to grips with the
slippery track surface.
Right from the outset reigning club champion, Heath Barry
was on the pace in his Nissan Micra. Barry had the tiny 1300
cc engined, Micra singing recording fastest times on the
first four runs.
Steve Van der Brug proved that the bigger rear wheel drive
cars can still be competitive against the smaller cars
clocking the next couple of fastest times in his V8 powered
Nissan 180 SX, or as he calls it, the 570 SX
After incurring a couple of penalties for hitting course
markers Barry regained the lead recording the next three
fastest times. Despite Rick Ranscombe and Van der Brug
recording three more fastest times between them, Barry had
built a big enough lead to hold on to first place powering
on to finish eleven seconds clear of Van der Brug
Rick Ranscombe and Shane North spent most of the day
fighting over third place.
Unfortunately Northy threw away any chance of a podium
finish when he spun on the last run of the day and handed
the final spot on the podium to Ranscombe in another Nissan.
Kara North finished a very creditable fourth outright and
first in the ladies class ahead of Krista Kenna while
Richard Howard won the battle at Team Primer finishing ahead
of Carl Johanson and Angie Howard.
The junior motorkhana was a hotly contested affair with
Mackenzie Barry taking an early lead over Josh Yendle and
new club member Emily Oorthuysen. A series of fastest times
by Yendle saw him regain the lead and win the event ahead of
Mackenzie and Emily.
The next event is round two of the inter-club challenge at
Herberton on 23rd & 24th September.
