The 3rd December 2017 Khanacross and Motorkhana results
Twenty-seven drivers, the biggest field for the year lined up for the twelfth and final round of the 2017 club championship.
The event started in bright sunshine but conditions were hot and steamy, with only a slight breeze.
Eight keen and sometimes nervous juniors lined up for the motorkhana including first time drivers Hannah and Shayne Breed.
Oliver MacDonald continues to impress winning the motorkhana by the narrowest of margins. He beat home Max Erwin by just .15 of a second, while Kodi Thackray rounded out the top three a further six seconds adrift.
After more than seven years of abuse- sorry I mean use, the junior clubby was sounding a bit sick, with a noisy cv joint and at times only running on three cylinders.
But the mighty Ford Festiva just kept on going and will now spend time over Christmas in Burmack’s workshop being prepped for another years racing.
Steve Van der Brug drove well all day to win the khanacross ahead of a trio of current and former club champions in Heath Barry, Greg Erwin and Bob Errey.
Rob Bassett’s development of the MR2 continues with a strong fifth place finish, while his partner Robyn Wilson showed that she is no slouch behind the wheel in her first ever event, winning the ladies class.
After some early problems with a blocked fuel filter, Stu MacDonald and Cyndy Fisher got there new Daihatsu Charade running well.
Allan "this is my first event and I am just going to take it steady" Dederer also showed some good speed in the Kia Rio club car. By the end of the day he was already searching gumtree for a car for next year.
Also making a rare appearance was Paul (Peppy) Breed, one of the clubs founding members. Pep now lives in Mt Isa but just happened to have holidays when this event was on.
By three o’clock the skies had opened up and the juniors were lucky to get there last run in, but a great event capping off another successful year for the club.
